
Tuesday marked the official date for the Illinois State Board of Elections’ canvass of the March Primary results in the state and with the canvass, it makes official the win for Fayette County State’s Attorney Brenda Mathis in the Republican Primary for Fourth Judicial Circuit Judge At-Large. The race came down to the wire with Mathis defeating runner-up Judge Wesley Gozia by just 16 votes. And after having to wait a few weeks for the results to be made official, Mathis says she is excited for the next step as the will be on the ballot as the Republican nominee in the November General Election.
As she prepares to move forward, Mathis does says the win is bittersweet as she is proud of her work in Fayette County and the relationships she has built along the way.
At this point, it will be wait and see as far as if there will be a Democratic candidate to run against Mathis in the November 3 election.
