
Showers and thunderstorms will return to the area this afternoon and we have a threat of severe weather that looks like it would reach our area early Saturday morning.
Our forecast calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms today–mainly after 1 pm–with a high of 78. Winds from the south will gust better than 20 miles per hour today. Then, showers and storms for tonight with a low of 60 and south winds gusting 25 miles per hour.
Meanwhile, we have another threat of severe weather. The National Weather Service in St. Louis says thunderstorms will develop along a cold front and move into the region tonight. The NWS says the best chance for severe weather will be in central and northeastern Missouri and into west-central Illinois with a decreasing but non-zero threat further southeast. They add that damaging winds and tornadoes are the main threat today, but they do say a few thunderstorms may produce large hail. The National Weather Service does add that thunderstorms should weaken with time and moving eastward, but they are uncertain how fast that will occur.
As of now, the timeline from the NWS says storms would arrive in our area between 4 am and 6 am on Saturday morning.
