Illinois ranks near the bottom across the country for entrepreneurship and economic growth based on new research assessed based on its ability “to lift barriers to human flourishing.”
Archbridge Institute researchers rank the state No. 45 based on such metrics as taxes, regulations, business dynamism, housing and energy.
With Illinois also ranking 44th in tax environment and 41st in regulations, Illinois Policy’s Josh Bandoch argues it’s clear what lawmakers in Springfield need to be focused on.
Bandoch argues it’s all coming at a steep price for the state, pointing to its ongoing outmigration issues that include a net loss of more than 40,000 residents having left over a yearlong period as an example.
With Illinois also ranking in the bottom half for housing affordability and the state facing mounting criticism for issuing the third-fewest housing permits per 1,000 people, Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently announced the launch of a program offering up to $15,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance to eligible first-time home buyers.
