State lawmakers on both sides of the aisle called for the wrangling of spiking gas prices this past Friday on the Illinois House floor.
The average price of fuel in Illinois has remained steadily above the national average as the cost of oil has sharply increase in recent weeks. A contributing factor to higher than average costs in the state’s Motor Fuel Tax, according to some state lawmakers and policy experts. Republican State Representative Jed Davis called on Democrats to address the issue.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed a bill hours earlier on Friday, temporarily suspending fuel taxes of his state in the short term. Democrat lawmakers blamed the cost of fuel on actions of the Trump Administration and did not address the tax rate.
