What ends up being a 50 degree swing in temperature from Sunday afternoon to the low on Sunday night helped lead to strong to severe storms making their way through the area on Sunday night.
During the 7 pm hour, heavy rains, strong winds and some small hail made their way through Vandalia and other parts of Fayette County. Around 7:50 pm, a storm cell prompted a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southern Fayette County and northern Marion County, but that warning was not in place for a long period of time.
After seeing highs in the middle to upper 80’s on Sunday afternoon, a cold front arrived in the area around 5 pm and dramatically dropped temperatures and that eventually ended up with an overnight low in the middle 30’s—showing a 50 degree temperature drop.
We have another similar temperature drop coming to the area later this week. Thursday we are expecting a high in the mid 80’s and then a drop to 40 for a low that night. Showers and storms are in the forecast for Thursday night and it can be expected that severe weather will be possible.
