In Illinois, early voting begins 45 days before the election. There is also voting by mail and other options for people to be able to cast their ballots. But, despite all that, voter turnout in Fayette County for Tuesday’s Primary Election was very low.
There are a total of 14,574 registered voters in Fayette County. And, there were 3,687 ballots cast for the Tuesday Primary–which is a total turnout of 25%.
Early voting is available for 45 days prior to the election, but that netted only 657 voters—which is just 4.5% of the registered voters. Early voting by mail was even lower with just 260 voters taking advantage of this option, which is 1.78% of the registered voters.
In Fayette County, voting on Election Day is still by far the most popular option. There were 2,770 ballots cast on Tuesday—which is 19% of the registered voters.
Voters will return to the polls again in November, with General Election Day set for Tuesday, November 3rd.
