The Illinois Senate insurance committee heard arguments about a bill requiring insurance companies to cover seizure detecting devices for patients with epilepsy.
According to proponents of the bill, a number of devices are FDA-cleared and they could provide a reduction in long-term medical costs.
While widely in support of the nature of the bill, opposition have raised concerns that the bill would not apply to state and local government workers, pushing the burden of costs primarily on small businesses.
State Sen. Jason Plummer was not moved by testimony of the bill’s supporters.
The bill and its amendments passed a vote by the committee, with only Plummer in opposition.
