Multiple First Responders Receive American Heart Association Awards prior to Tuesday’s Fayette Co Board Meeting

Before Tuesday’s Fayette County Board meeting, members of the Brownstown Fire Department, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and Rural Med EMS first responders received Life Saver Awards from the American Heart Association for their efforts in saving Brownstown Fire Department member Brian Washburn, who went into sudden cardiac arrest on November 18th, 2025. Local American Heart Association instructor and paramedic Mike Sasse took a moment to recognize the importance of knowing CPR.

Washburn’s wife, Maddie, was also presented with an award for her quick response in both calling 911 and being the first to perform CPR on Washburn.
