(Lee County, IL) — A volunteer firefighter is facing charges for allegedly starting a wildfire that torched a northern Illinois nature preserve. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21-year-old Trent Schafer after witnesses saw him intentionally set the fire at the Green River State Wildlife Management Area around 11 a.m. Friday. Those witnesses reportedly stopped and held Schafer until officers arrived and arrested him.
