The annual Fayette County Lincoln Day Dinner was held on Saturday in Vandalia and among attendees were Fayette County States Attorney Brenda Mathis and Wesley A. Gozia, an At-Large Circuit Judge in the Fourth Judicial Circuit. Both are running for the Republican nomination for Circuit Fourth Judicial Circuit in the upcoming March Primary. Mathis is running for Judge for the first time after over a decade of legal experience including her time as State Attorney. She says she is excited to hopefully serve the people in an expanded role and urges everyone to get out and vote.
Gozia was appointed to his current position as a judge following the retirement of Judge Douglas Jarman and has been serving in the position since March 2025. Gozia will fill the spot until December 7 of this year after the November General Election. He says attending events like the Lincoln Day Dinner is a fun part of campaigning.
While most voters and constituents look as the everyday work on the bench as the only aspect of being a judge, there is more going on behind the scenes as judges can help shape the judicial system and both Mathis and Gozia have issues that are near and dear to them. And we’ll hear more from both candidates about that tomorrow on Newscenter.
