The Vandalia Fire Department has been called out to multiple fires in the past several days.
With the stronger winds over the past week, the Fire Department has been called out to fires of that nature multiple times along with other fire situations.
On Monday evening, Vandalia Fire Chief Zac Stombaugh says they were called out to a structure fire in the 1400 block of N. 1150 Street. Chief Stombaugh says it was a small chimney fire that extinguished quickly by first arriving crews with minor water and smoke damage to the residence. Chief Stombaugh says they were on the scene for about a half hour.
A call last week for the Vandalia Fire Department was for a puppy that had fallen into a well in the 300 block of East 2000 Avenue. Chief Stombaugh say upon arrival the puppy was deceased and crews were able to remove the dog from the well. Chief Stombaugh says on the way back from that call, they were dispatched to the 1900 block of US 51 for a report of a shed fire. He says crews arrived to find a storage shed building fully involved with fire. Chief Stombaugh says crews were able to extinguish the fire, but the building was a total loss. He adds that crews were on the scene for about 1 hour.
