At their meeting this past week, the City of Vandalia’s Economic Development Committee learned that residential home sales were down in Vandalia and Fayette County in 2025—as compared to 2024. And, the median home prices were also down for those homes that did sell in 2025. Speaking on our podcast “Talking About Vandalia,” Mayor Doug Knebel says there are some possible reasons to believe that this will just be a one year situation. But, he says they know housing is an issue in the community. And, he says there are some positives they need to work to better promote.
And, as Knebel added, adding on those amenities to continue to make it a more attractive place for people to want to locate here.
