(Peoria Co, IL) — The Illinois Department of Corrections isn’t revealing where former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson is serving his 20-year prison sentence for the killing of Sonya Massey. Grayson was sentenced last month after he was convicted in October of second-degree murder. Authorities say the former deputy shot and killed the unarmed Black woman in July 2024 after she called 9-1-1 over a potential intruder at her Springfield home. IDOC said Grayson has begun his prison term, but won’t confirm his location for safety and security reasons.
