The February Economic Development Commission meeting looked at housing sales in Vandalia, Fayette County and surrounding areas for this past year. And, those numbers were down.
Tyler Schmitt presented the information to the group showing that residential home sales were down for both Vandalia and Fayette County in 2025 as compared to 2024. And, also the median sales price for those homes was down, as well. Surrounding communities—including Effingham and then to the west of Vandalia—saw those numbers increase during 2025.
Speaking on our podcast “Talking about Vandalia,” Mayor Doug Knebel says the housing market is certainly a challenge for the community, especially to have “sweet spot” buying price for the community.
We will talk more on the EDC meeting coming up tomorrow during NewsCenter.
