The City of Vandalia will revamp their system on selling lake lots starting in May.
Currently, the City of Vandalia has a list that residents can be on and when someone is selling their lake lot, the City will notify them. Lot owners are required to notify the city when wish to sell the improvements of their lot. And, the city would then notify 10 people at a time. So, it can be a time consuming system to manage. But, the city is looking at revamping that system. But, speaking during this past Monday’s special meeting, City Clerk Carla Huhn says they would like to have a little more time to get everything ready before they change to a new system.
Alderman Bret Brosman questioned if that meant the old system would be in place for the start of the New Year. Mayor Doug Knebel says it would be before the switch would be made later.
A change to the new system was approved for May 1st by the City Council by a vote of 4 to 1 with Brosman voting no. The new system that will start May 1st will have the city begin placing the improvements for sale on their website and get rid of the list of potential buyers. And, anyone would be able to view the list on the website. And, if someone wishes to purchase the listed improvements, they would contact City Hall. If only one person is interested, they would process as normal and the City Council would have final say as it is now. In the event multiple people wish to purchase the same property, then Priority would be given in this order—City of Vandalia resident, Fayette County resident and then anyone outside those areas.
