Multiple topics were discussed at the December Saint Elmo City Council Meeting. The first item that was discussed was the hiring of a new lawyer for the City. With the current Lawyer, Richard Day, retiring at the end of the month, the Council agreed to hire Taylor Law Office from Effingham. The Council then voted on the dates of the 2026 meetings, agreeing to keep them for the first Wednesday of every month. The Council then approved the hire of Tristian Overig as a full-time police officer. Saint Elmo Mayor Kim Baron discussed the need for the new hire.
The St. Elmo City Council voted on installing tinted windows for the police station from Eby Graphics out of Crystal Lake for $566.37. Lastly, the Council approved the execution of a TIF redevelopment agreement between the city of Saint Elmo and the Refinery Academy for $15,000 over the course of five years. During November, the Saint Elmo Police Department responded to 33 calls for service, had 7 officer-initiated activities, 1 agency assist, 12 building checks, 3 traffic stops, and issued 3 warnings.
