Vandalia Mayor Doug Knebel and Police Chief Jeff Ray both praised the work by the Vandalia Police Officers during the tragic events in the community on Friday.
During Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting, Mayor Knebel thanked the Vandalia Police Department for their work in the incident.
Later in the meeting, Police Chief Jeff Ray says he was very proud of his department’s work.
The incident began with a missing teenager and then eventually finding the body of the missing teen. Then, law enforcement allegedly identified a suspect and apprehended that individual. That individual–43 year old Arnold B. Rivera–was charged on Monday in Fayette County Court with six counts–including two counts of First Degree Murder.
Meanwhile, Fayette County Coroner David Harris released an update on Monday in regards to the death of the 14 year old Vandalia girl which occurred on Friday. Coroner Harris says the autopsy confirmed the victim was strangled and her death has been ruled a homicide.
