Multiple topics were discussed at the November Saint Elmo City Council Meeting. The first item that was discussed was awarding Tony Porter with the Employee Service Award. Porter has been employed with the city for 25 years The Council approved on a 5% tax increase on their yearly tax levy. While discussing the tax increase, council member James Russell said “ I don’t want to pay higher property taxes more than anybody else, but I also don’t wanna get behind either” The Council then approved on an allowance of 200 dollars a year that will go towards workwear for Public Works employees. The Council also approved the resignation of part time police officer Gage Martson, and lastly voted on a date for Christmas in St. Elmo, which will be held on December 7th from 2-5 PM. During October, the St. Elmo Police Department responded to 38 calls for service, had 9 officer initiated activity, 1 agency assist, 11 building checks, issued 5 traffic stops, gave out 2 citations, and issued 3 warnings.
