(Springfield, IL) — Jury deliberations are underway in the trial of the former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy charged with murdering Sonya Massey. Sean Grayson is charged with murder in the shooting death of the unarmed Black woman inside her home in July 2024. Lawyers on both sides presented their closing arguments yesterday before jurors began deliberating. The defense has argued that Grayson was acting in self-defense because he believed Massey was going to throw a pot of boiling water at him.
