Governor J.B. Pritzker says Illinois lawmakers are having conversations about changing the state’s congressional map.
Outside the Illinois State Board of Elections in Springfield Monday, the governor was asked if Democrats in the General Assembly might pass redistricting legislation during the fall veto session.
Pritzker said redistricting does not have to happen during veto session, but it could happen after that.
Illinois House Republican leader Tony McCombie said it would be a mistake for the governor to sign off on changes to the state’s congressional map.
U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries visited Chicago and Springfield Monday to lobby for redistricting in Illinois.
