A one vehicle accident leads to damage to the front of Arby’s in Vandalia.
Vandalia Police reports say that on Tuesday they responded to 721 Veterans Avenue in Vandalia–Arby’s Restaurant–for a report of an accident. Upon arrival, officers observed a 2019 Buick Encore being operated by 76 year old Bessie M. Athens of Topeka, Illinois and had driven into the glass doors of Arby’s. Vandalia Police reports say a passenger was transported to Fayette County Hospital for treatment.
Police reports say the driver explained to officers that she believed she was pushing the brake, as she was attempting to park, but she was pushing the accelerator by accident which caused the vehicle to go over the curb and continue into the doors of the building. Vandalia Police reports say that Athens refused treatment at the scene.
