(Springfield, IL) — Opening statements will begin today in the trial of the former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy charged in the killing of Sonya Massey last year. Sean Grayson is charged with murder in Massey’s July 2024 shooting death inside her home. After the jury was selected on Monday, the judge agreed yesterday to drop two of the lesser charges of aggravated battery and official misconduct against Grayson.
