
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the beloved Opal Agnes (Otta) Tippitt Shotton, 99, of Moweaqua, Illinois, formerly of Iuka, Illinois at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois on October 19, 2025.
She was born May 14, 1926 in Moweaqua to August Theodore Otta and Mabel Elizabeth Walters.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rondal N. Tippitt, daughter Louise Agnes Tippitt and sons Ronald Noah Tippitt, and “Little Ron” Cox, siblings, Lillian and Helen, great grandson, P. J. Modglin and is survived by her daughter Elizabeth B. Beckett of Moweaqua, Grand Daughters, Denise (Gary) Van Avery of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Kelly (Mark) Ellis of Sanford, North Carolina, Carla (Brad) Paris of Opdyke, Illinois, Shane McLain, Moweaqua, Illinois, Laura Rael, Springfield, Missouri, Heather (Mike) Heinrich of Springfield, Missouri, Josh (Stephanie) Tippitt of Sparta, Missouri, great grandchildren, Alex, Nick, Tressa, Lucas, Bethany, Sam, Jessica, Remington. Great – great grandchildren, Benny, Scarlett, Michael, Ryder, Zoey, Morgan, and Jaxton.
Opal was a true example of strength, resilience, and grace to everyone that knew her. Dedicated to her church, family, and friends, she was an extraordinary wife, mother, grand mother, great grandmother and great great grandmother to many and lived a long life full of love. She drew strength from hardships and was always motivated to live her life to the fullest. She worked as a housekeeper, salesperson for Stanley Home Products, and took care of the family farm. She treasured her pets, Garfield and Maggie and welcomed all animals into their family home.
The family will receive friends on October 25 at 1 p.m. with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Macon, Illinois. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
