(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois Department of Corrections is raising concerns over the technology used for scanning inmates’ mail. The department has been scanning mail since the end of September to prevent drugs from getting into prisons, but there are ongoing issues. Meanwhile, lawmakers are upset over the delay in the implementation of digital mail delivered to tablets for inmates. This, considering the mail scanning technology was installed as an “emergency” measure over the summer.
