The Vandalia City Council has approved some rather large changes to the City’s Solicitor’s Ordinance.
Under the ordinance that was in place, the fee for a Solicitor’s License to go door-to-door selling in the City of Vandalia was $100 per individual per day and you were also required to submit to a background check. At an earlier meeting, it was discovered this cost is well above any other similar communities.
At Monday’s meeting, the new requirements were approved. Under the new changes, it will now be $100 per individual for 90 days and will be Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. In the past, the solicitor’s hours were 9 am to 9 pm.
City Clerk Carla Huhn also pointed out during Monday’s meeting that a repeat background check would be needed after 90 days.
The matter was approved by vote of 5 to 2 with Aldermen Bret Brosman and Mike Hobler voting No. Alderman Bob Bowen was absent at the time of the vote.
