The City of Vandalia held their last Lake Committee meeting for 2025 on Monday evening.
One issue that was discussed was repairs to the Vandalia Lake Dam. Alderman Andy Lester, who is the head of the City’s Building and Grounds Committee, said the repairs are something he believes the city can do themselves. He says at this time, with the recent lack of rain and the water being low, there is an opportunity to make repairs to cracks on the lower part of the dam. He says they will need to use different materials on the lower part of the dam–which has not seen these repairs before, then on the upper part of the dam that has seen such repairs before and will need a different material place on it to repair cracks.
Vandalia Mayor Doug Knebel says they recently met with an individual to give further ideas and a bid on work on one major problem cove at Vandalia Lake, to repair the siltation issues. Mayor Knebel says the information was just received on Monday and they may be able to take action on the matter at their October 20th Vandalia City Council meeting.
