Illinois opponents and supporters weigh in as the FDA reviews safety rules for abortion pills loosened under the Biden Administration. Supporters call it a necessary step to protect women, while abortion rights advocates say it’s politically motivated and restricts access.
Mark Lee Dickson, Director of Right to Life Across Texas and founder of the Sanctuary Cities for Unborn Initiative, criticized the Biden Administration for loosening safeguards on mail-order access to abortion pills.
Dickson also highlighted the historical context of federal law in restricting abortion medications.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois says mifepristone has been a safe and widely used medication for abortion and miscarriage care for 25 years. The organization offers it in health centers and via telehealth, and calls the FDA’s review politically motivated and harmful to trust in health care.
