Tens of thousands of Illinois farmers are facing challenging conditions, with elevated fire risks due to recent drought.
The Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal issued a statement this week urging farmers and agricultural workers to prioritize safety during this year’s harvest.
Abigail Peterson of the Illinois Soybean Association said conditions vary in different parts of the state.
Peterson said she remains hopeful but would not be surprised if yields are average to below average.
Peterson said she is hoping for a safe harvest.
