The Fayette County Farm Bureau has completed their annual Crop Survey as harvest is now getting underway.
Overall, the survey shows an average estimate for corn at 179.84 bushels per acre and an average estimate for soybeans at 45.06 bushels per acre. In the county, there was a wide range on corn—with the lowest surveyed spot being 115 bushels per acre in the central east area of the county and a high of 250 bushels per acres in a field in the northeast area of the county. For soybeans, the low was 15 bushels per acre in a field in the northwest part of the county and the high was 68 bushels per acre for a field in the county’s southwest area.
Farmers dealt with some fairly crazy weather this year–starting off with a very wet spring that held planting back for many, then an extremely wet early part of the summer–especially during the month of July. But, then an extended dry period that continues up to this time.
