The enrollment has doubled for this school year at the Okaw Area Vocational Center as the program continues to grow with the 2025-2026 school year underway. During the Vandalia School Board meeting on Thursday evening, Okaw Director Nick Casey informed the board that enrollment for this year is at 297 students, an increase of 150. With the recent purchase of the former Kanata Blanket building to be used to grow the vocational program, Vandalia Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Garrison says they have been able to begin to reach their goal of continued growth and expansion of the program.
They have made adjustments this year to address the growing interest in the vocational program including adding a second nursing instructor due to high demand.
Currently the Okaw Vocational School offers 12 programs including auto body, auto mechanics, building trades, computer aided drafting, computer tech & networking, culinary arts/food service, foundations of education, graphic design, health occupations, office tech & business, power mechanics and welding/metal fabrication.
