(Sangamon Co., IL) — A central Illinois man will spend time in prison for causing a 2022 wrong-way crash in Sangamon County that left a Chicago area woman dead. Shane Woods was sentenced to 17 years after he was found guilty earlier this year to aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide. He was acquitted of first-degree murder. Authorities say Woods made a drunken suicide attempt on I-55 in Sangamon County on November 8th, 2022. However, he collided with a vehicle, killing Lauren Wegner of Skokie. Woods was previously sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to taking part in the U.S. Capitol riot in 2021.
