According to the latest Legislative Heat Check Report, Illinois is now a lawsuit inferno.
The report by the American Tort Reform Association says the General Assembly’s passage of Illinois Senate Bill 328 sends a message that Illinois is not open for business.
Phil Melin of Illinois Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse says Gov. J.B. Pritzker may be inclined to veto the measure.
Melin says SB 328 would open Illinois courts to cases with out-of-state plaintiffs and defendants.
Illinois Senate President Don Harmon sponsored the bill.
From 2022 to 2025, Harmon received $75,000 in campaign donations from the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association’s political-action committee.
