Starting yesterday (July 1st), Illinois taxpayers will be funding the largest budget in state history.
The $55.2 billion spending plan includes higher taxes on telecommunications, tobacco products, sports betting and short-term rentals, along with corporate income tax rule changes.
Illinois House Speaker Chris Welch said his budget team accomplished something great.
State Senator Chapin Rose said state spending has increased nearly 40 percent since J.B. Pritzker became governor.
Rose noted that the budget paused property tax relief.
