The Vandalia Fire Department battled a fire at the FAYCO building on Thursday morning.
Vandalia Fire Chief Zac Stombaugh says they were called to FAYCO on Sunset Drive Thursday morning at 9:35 am. He says they arrived to find a fire in the warehouse area at the north end of the building. Chief Stombaugh adds there was a fire in the same area of the building earlier this year. He says the fire was knocked down fairly quickly, as they were on the scene for about an hour and 12 firefighters responded to the fire. Chief Stombaugh does add the area where the fire was is not inhabited by any people and the warehouse did not have anything in it in the area where the fire broke out so it was only structural components that were burning. He adds Vandalia Police Department, Rural Med EMS and FAYCO staff assisted in evacuating all the clients out of the building. Chief Stombaugh adds the origin of the fire is unknown at this time.
