(Rockford, IL) — Rockford’s fire chief is set to make history as the next Illinois State Fire Marshal. Governor Pritzker announced his appointment of Michele Pankow. Chief Pankow has spent over 32 years in the Illinois fire service, and will be the first woman to serve as the Illinois State Fire Marshal beginning in mid-July. She has served as Rockford Fire Chief since 2021. Her appointment as State Fire Marshal is pending a senate confirmation.
