Vandalia Mayor Doug Knebel says the City of Vandalia took a couple of big steps forward and maybe a half-step back on the development of the west interchange property the City of Vandalia hopes will be used for economic development in the near future.
Speaking on our weekly podcast, “Talking about Vandalia,” Mayor Knebel says they are now ready to move forward with the $3 million grant that will provide road and water improvements on the better than 100 acre tract of land owned by the City of Vandalia at the west interchange.
The total cost of the infrastructure project was earlier estimated at $3.75 million. Mayor Knebel says there is a little bit of a setback at the property as there were some historic artifacts found on a small part. But, he says it’s one they are dealing with.
He also adds there is more good news, as they should be set to go with both electric and gas on the property, as well.
As Mayor Knebel says the project should be “shovel ready” for potential developers in 2026.
