(Springfield, IL) — Governor Pritzker is touting the passage of another balanced state budget. The Illinois General Assembly passed a 55-billion-dollar spending plan for Fiscal Year 2026 on Saturday. The governor says the budget delivers for working families. The budget includes spending cuts and hundreds of millions of dollars in tax increases on tobacco products, vaping, and online sportsbooks. The General Assembly did adjourn its spring session without passing legislation to address the 771-million-dollar fiscal deficit faced by Chicago-area mass transit.
