Legislation requiring the addition of seat belts on school buses passed the Illinois House of Representatives on Wednesday. The measure would require all school buses have three-point seat belts by 2031.
That is the bill’s sponsor, State Representative Bob Morgan. Some have raised concerns about the seat belt impeding kids from escaping in an emergency. State Representative Patrick Windhorst highlighted the cost of installing belts on all buses.
The bill would grandfather in any school buses purchased before 2031. It can go to the Governor for his signature.
