(Peoria Co., IL) — The Peoria City and County Health Department is reporting that a rapid bat was discovered in the county. Health officials say with the identification of a bat with rabies, any person having exposure to bats should report it immediately to Peoria County Animal Protection Services and the Peoria City and County Health Department to assess the need for rabies treatment. Rabies is a dangerous but preventable viral disease that affects the central nervous system of humans and other mammals.
