Showers and storms are in the forecast for today and severe weather is possible for this afternoon and this evening.
Our forecast for today calls for showers and thunderstorms with a high of 79. Winds out of the south will gust about 25 miles per hour during the day today.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis says there is a chance that scattered severe thunderstorms may develop this afternoon ahead of a cold front. If the storms develop, they will probably become severe. The best chance for severe thunderstorms will be across east central and southeast Missouri into southwest and south central Illinois. Hail in excess of 1 inch in diameter and damaging wind gusts to 60 mph and higher are the primary threats. A tornado or two is also possible, but not as likely as the past few days. The threat for storms will end from west to east through late afternoon into early evening as the cold front passes.
