South Central softball went 1-1 at the Lady Tiger Classic hosted by Olney on Saturday. The Lady Cougars opened up the day with a 3-1 win over Lawrenceville in a tight contest that featured some tough pitching from both teams. South Central recorded just three hits in the game with Kyra Swift, Kaitlyn Swift and Kinlee Thompson each getting a hit apiece and pitcher Maddie Peddicord struck out 11 of the 22 batters she faced. The win set them up to play the host Olney Tigers and that game proved to be a hit fest as the teams combined for 23 hits in the game. South Central took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and stretched it out to 3-0 with a pair of third inning runs. Another run in the top of the sixth inning edged the lead out to 4-0 before Olney put up their first run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Cougar lead to 4-1. A pair of seventh inning runs had South Central up 6-1, but Olney led off the inning scoring a run on a double that turned into a run on a pair of South Central errors on the play to cut it to 6-2. From there the Tigers marched on using small ball with multiple singles a couple walks to bring in five more runs and get the walk off win over the Cougars. Lauren Johnson, Zoey Feldhake, Bri Buchanan and Peddicord all had two hits apiece in the game for South Central with one of Johnson’s hits being a 2-run home run. South Central now stands at 16-10 on the season and will play one more regular season game when they travel to Mulberry Grove on Monday for last matchup before beginning postseason play on Tuesday.
