A Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy was presented with a Life Saving Award during Tuesday’s Fayette County Board meeting.
Fayette County Sheriff Ronnie Stevens told the story of the event and also showed the board the body cam footage from the event. Sheriff Stevens says that on April 24th at 4:30 pm there was a call to an individual in distress on Kennedy Boulevard/U.S. Route 51 on the overpass over Interstate 70 at Exit 63 area. Sheriff Stevens said that Vandalia PD was tied up at the time, so they took the call. And, it turned out to be for a distress individual who was threatening to jump off of the bridge and onto Interstate 70 below. Lieutenant Brasel and Deputy Kyle Cook responded to the call and the video shows Deputy Cook working to talk with the individual and get him off of the bridge. They were eventually able to get the individual to the hospital for treatment.
During Tuesday’s meeting, Sheriff Stevens presented Deputy Cook with the award for his work to save the individual.
