(Winnebago Co., IL) — The West Nile Virus is present in Winnebago County. Health officials say a mosquito batch collected on May 9th in Rockford tested positive for the virus. It was the first mosquito pool to test positive for West Nile in Illinois this year. Last year, health officials reported that 72 counties around the state reported positive tests for the virus in mosquitoes, birds, horses or humans.
