(Chicago, IL) — A federal judge is delaying the retrial of the former AT&T Illinois president accused of trying to bribe ex-Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan until next year. The judge set a new trial date for Paul La Schiazza for January 22nd, 2026. The retrial was originally scheduled for June 3rd. The judge postponed it in order to allow the new U.S. attorney in Chicago to consider the next steps in the case and avoid any conflict with Madigan’s sentencing on June 13th. La Schiazza was indicted in October 2022 with conspiring to pay a former state lawmaker 25-hundred-dollars a month in consulting fees as part of a plan to win Madigan’s backing of legislation in Springfield. Following a weeklong trial last September, the judge declared a mistrial when the jury announced it had deadlocked.
