The South Central Lady Cougars battled hard but came up just short, 32 to 28, in an overtime loss to Casey-Westfield as they wrapped up pool play in the Dieterich Girls Holiday Tournament on Friday. The Lady Cougars fell behind in the first quarter as the Warriors came out fast and took a 14-5 lead. South Central would turn the tables in the second quarter though, holding the Warriors to just two points while dropping in eight points to pull within three points of Casey-Westfield, 16-13, at halftime. The third quarter was a power struggle as the two teams matched each other with five points as South Central continued to trail by three, 21-18, at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Cougars would again fight back and outscore Casey-Westfield 10-7 in the fourth to tie things up at 28-28 at the end of regulation. The overtime period would be a tough one though as South Central allowed just four points to the Warriors, but the Cougars were held scoreless as they suffered the close 32-28 loss. South Central ends pool play at 0-3 and that will put them into the 7th Place game on Saturday at 1:00pm against Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville who went 0-3 in Pool B play.
