Altamont couldn’t keep history from repeating itself as the Indians fell to Goreville in the semifinals of the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament, 66 to 47, on Friday. For the second year in a row, the Indians and Blackcats met up in the Championship semifinal and scoring would be strong from the opening tip as Goreville outscored Altamont 21-15 in the first quarter. The Indians would go on a strong 13-9 run in the second as they pulled themselves to within just two points of the Blackcats at halftime, trailing by a slim 30-28 margin. The two teams would again score often in the third quarter as Goreville had a 17-13 advantage in the quarter to pull their lead over Altamont out to six points, 47-41, to start eh third quarter. Altamont would run out of steam though in the fourth quarter as they were outscored 19-6 and would fall to Goreville 66-47. The loss will send Altamont into the third place game on Saturday where they will face DuQuoin at 3:00pm.
