The corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and co-defendant Michael McClain is set to resume Monday at the Dirksen federal courthouse in Chicago.
Former Democratic Party staffer Alaina Hampton is expected to testify this week, following lobbyist and former Madigan aide Will Cousineau.
Another Madigan staffer, Kevin Quinn, was fired in 2018 after Hampton accused him of sexual harassment. McClain called on Cousineau to help Quinn.
In a recorded conversation, Cousineau asked McClain if Quinn would register to be a lobbyist for Cornerstone, the firm where Cousineau worked.
Cousineau confirmed in court that “our friend” referred to Madigan.
McClain referred to Madigan after suggesting that Cousineau set up a business aside from Cornerstone.
Madigan and McClain are charged with 23 counts of bribery, racketeering and official misconduct.
