Charles Lee Eyman of Greenville, Illinois passed away Friday evening, October 25, 2024, at the age of 74. A lifelong farmer and devoted family man Charles left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Charles was born February 13, 1950, in Vandalia, Illinois to Charles E. and Betty (Mansholt) Eyman. He grew up in Bond County graduating with the Greenville High School class of 1968. After high school, he attended Milliken University for one year, finishing his education as a part of Greenville College Class of 1972 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Charles married Laurel Vancil in Taylorville, Illinois on May 27,1972, she survives.
Charles, with his family, operated a successful dairy, livestock, and grain operation. His practical mind and relentless work ethic were complemented thru a deep love for others—especially his wife Laurel, children, grandchildren, and siblings. His grandchildren will forever remember him as the PawPaw who spoiled them with M&M’s, chips, and endless love.
Charles’s favorite pastime simply involved connecting with nature and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. But “the reality is” his pursuits reflected his ability to find peace where others saw only labor. His legacy is one of fairness, reason, and quiet passion, qualities that will remain in the hearts of his family and friends. Though he leaves behind a deep absence, the fields he tilled, the lessons he shared, and the love he cultivated will continue to deepen in those who knew him.
He is survived by wife, Laurel of Greenville; children, daughter, Lynn Eyman and son, John, (Tara) Eyman, of Donnellson; grandchildren, Eli, Madelyn, Michael, Matthew, and Miles of Donnellson; siblings, Mary (Dave) Grant of Petersburg, Lola Horsfall of Greenville, Jackie (Paul) Clay of Vandalia, Jill (John) Clubb of St. Louis, MO, Dale (Kris) Eyman of Pocahontas, Tom (Cathy) Eyman of Greenville, Mark (Bev Leyburn) Eyman of Licking, MO, and Scott (Sara) Eyman of Taylorville; brother-in-law, Robin (Karen) Vancil of Morrisonville; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
