
A jury trial has been confirmed for later this month in Fayette County Court for a Vandalia man charged with multiple counts of child pornography, predatory criminal sexual assault and violating bail bond. 65-year old Dennis J. Pickens made an appearance in Fayette County Court on Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing in which Fayette County States Attorney Brenda Mathis, the Illinois Attorney General’s office and the defense all confirmed a jury trial date of October 28. There will be one final pre-trial and a motion hearing in the matter set for next week on Monday, October 7 at 10am.
Pickens is charged with four counts of production of child pornography as he is alleged to have made four videos, three depicting a victim under the age of 18 and one video containing two victims under the age of 18. All four of those counts are Class X felonies punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison. Pickens is also charged with one count each of Criminal Sexual Assault of a victim under the age of 18 and Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a victim under the age of 13. Both of those charges are also Class X Felonies punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison. Along with those six charges, Pickens also faces three counts of Violating the Bail Bond of a Class X Felony as he is alleged to have made contact with his contacts in violation of the bond on the first four counts he was charged with and those counts are all Class 1 felonies punishable by four to 15 years in prison.
