A Vandalia man is facing multiple charges in Fayette County Court following an incident on August 30th.
A Vandalia Police report says that on August 30th at around 6 pm in the evening, Vandalia Police Officers were involved in a traffic stop where a 4 Wheeler is alleged to have taken off from an Officer and then the matter turned into a foot chase. Vandalia Police Officers spotted the individual and later he was located in a shed behind a residence on North 7th Street. The individual was identified as 28 year old Christopher W. Cox. The Vandalia Police Officer says that Cox was placed in handcuffs at that time. A short time later, the report says that Cox started complaining of stomach pain and the officers requested EMS. The report says a Vandalia Police Officer at this time noticed Cox was chewing on something. The report says the Officer could see a white baggie in his mouth on the left side and Officers say Cox swallowed the baggie. When asked what was in the baggie, Cox first stated “weed” then said it was Fentanyl. While being transported to the hospital, the report says Cox informed the officer there was Methamphetamine in the baggie.
Cox is now facing charges from the incident of August 30th. Cox is charged with Obstruction of Justice, which is a Class 4 Felony. Information on the charge state that Cox “knowingly attempted to destroy physical evidence” in front of a Vandalia Police Officer “inhaled a white substance containing Methamphetamine and Fentanyl.” Cox is also charged with Resisting a Peace Officer, which is a Class A Misdemeanor for allegedly fleeing an officer on foot in the incident.
Cox appeared in Fayette County Court this week on the charges. He is next scheduled to appear in Fayette County Court on the matter for a pre-trail on October 16th.
